Operation

A 50-ton capacity air film Mover has been installed at Stockholm Public Transport´s (SL) new maintenance depot in Hammarby outside Stockholm, Sweden. Used for moving railway cars between work stations the air film Mover operates in a 30m x 70m large area at one end of the depot.

Construction

In the depot there are eight holding tracks running towards the mover, which docks with the rail, lifts up the locomotive or railway car, then turns and moves it to another track. The Mover thus performs the tasks of a turntable and transfer car.

Result

Compared to earlier solutions using a traditional turntable this system not only saves time but also allows a larger part of the depot to be used as a storage area for locomotives and railway cars.
