AGV system supports efficient and scalable house production at NOKERA

Efficient material flow is a key factor in scalable house production at NOKERA. From the very beginning, an AGV system for automated material handling was installed. This ensured high efficiency, workflow reliability, and a safe production environment.

High production efficiency through automation

To support a fast and reliable production flow, NOKERA has implemented an AGV system for automated material handling in the prefabrication of house components. The system consists of three Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) with roller conveyors that automatically supply five stations along four assembly lines. This reduces manual transports and also ensures that materials are delivered exactly where and when they are needed.

Reduced damage and improved workflow reliability

By automating the handling of board stacks weighing up to 3000 kg, NOKERA benefits from consistent workflows and a low risk of material damage throughout the factory. Laser navigation and automatic load detection ensure precise positioning, while automated load support protects materials during transport and handling.

Automation with minimal operator involvement

The AGVs receive driving orders automatically from the production control system. The onboard roller conveyor starts automatically when the AGV communicates with the loading station. Contact-free communication at the loading stations enables efficient and reliable material flows with minimal operator involvement.

Safe interaction between people and automation

The solution also contributes to a safe working environment by supporting safe interaction between automated vehicles and personnel on the factory floor. In addition to standard safety equipment, such as emergency stops, the AGVs are equipped with 360° safety scanners, and automatically stop whenever an obstacle is detected in their driving path. BlueSpot warning lights alert nearby personnel when the AGVs are approaching.

Supporting scalable and sustainable house production

For NOKERA, whose mission is to deliver sustainable and affordable housing through industrialized timber construction, automation means that production capacity is scalable, quality can be ensured consistently, and operational efficiency can be kept on a long-term basis.

Maintenance-friendly design

Most wear parts and critical components are easily accessible, even when the AGV is loaded, simplifying maintenance work and minimizing downtime.

Short payback period

Designed for continuous operation in industrial environments, the AGV system provides a short payback period compared to manual forklift handling.
